Sternal suture (steel suture)

Sternal suture (steel suture):
Sternal suture (steel suture)

The most common tool used for clamping the chest sternum in open heart surgery is a non-absorbable metallic suture, known as Sternal Suture. This suture often remains in the patient’s body for life, thus it requires to be resistant to corrosion and maintain long-term tensile strength. Bio-compatibility, non-sensitivity, non-poisonous, and non-infectious are also other important factors in its function. These metallic sutures can be monitored by X-rays.
